Job Summary:
A Print Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining printing equipment used in the
production of printed materials such as metal, plastic, banners, posters, decals, and other
printed products. The Print Operator ensures the efficient operation of printing machines,
monitors quality, performs routine maintenance, and resolves any technical issues that may
arise during production.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate Printing Equipment: Set up, operate, and monitor printing machines (e.g.,
digital printers, flatbed printer, laser, 3D printer, etc.) to produce high-quality prints.
Monitor Quality Control: Ensure that printed materials meet quality standards by
inspecting printed products, adjusting equipment settings as needed, and performing
regular quality checks throughout the production run.
Machine Setup and Maintenance: Prepare printing machines for production by
selecting and loading the correct printing materials. Perform routine maintenance and
troubleshooting to ensure equipment operates at peak efficiency.
Materials Management: Handle the loading and unloading of printing materials, such as
vinyl, ink, and other consumables. Maintain inventory and ensure proper storage of
materials.
Technical Support: Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems that may arise during
the printing process. Work with maintenance teams to repair and maintain equipment
when necessary.
Documenting Production: Maintain records of job specifications, production timelines,
and any issues encountered during the printing process.
Safety Compliance: Follow all safety guidelines and protocols while operating
equipment and handling materials. Ensure a safe and clean work environment.
Collaboration: Work closely with supervisors, designers, and other team members to
meet production deadlines and ensure job specifications are followed.
Post-Production Activities: Assist with the finishing process, including trimming,
laminating, and prepping vinyl for application of printed materials for distribution, delivery
or installation.
Skills and Qualifications:
Technical Skills: Knowledge of various printing methods (digital, flatbed, etc.) and the
ability to operate related equipment.
Attention to Detail: Strong ability to identify quality issues and make adjustments to
ensure high standards of finished products.
Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and resolve technical
issues quickly.
Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and move heavy materials, stand for extended periods,
and operate machinery.
Time Management: Capable of handling multiple tasks and meeting tight deadlines in a
fast-paced environment.
Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication to interact with
team members and supervisors.
Education and Experience:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in print
technology or a related field is a plus.
Experience: Previous experience in a print shop or related industry is preferred.
Training in print operation and machine maintenance may also be provided.
Work Environment:
